    • Solutions: Screening

With AM screening, the most widely used form of screening today, the position and angle of dots remains fixed, but the size of each dot is varied to reproduce the effect of continuous tone. On the other hand, FM screening (or stochastic screening) uses dots of the same size, but places them randomly in varying amounts to reproduce continuous tone.
With the FM method, it is possible to produce very fine detailed print and eliminate the moiré and broken lines associated with AM screening.
With SPEKTA screening, you can have the best of both AM and FM screening methods. And you can have it on every page and every image that you print.

      FM Screening

      Description

      Randot X
High-definition screening has taken a major step forward with Randot X, the high-quality stochastic screening technology from Screen. Randot X includes 20-micron, 15-micron and 10-micron screening for highly detailed print production. Randot X offers the best attributes of frequency modulation (FM) screening but overcomes issues often associated with the FM method, such as grainy effects in highlight areas and loss of detail. It creates reproductions with incredible sharpness while eliminating moiré and broken lines. It enables users to reap the full benefit of computer-to-plate imaging's sharp dot structure and directional accuracy

      Details

      Improvement over conventional FM screening
Randot X offers substantial improvements over conventional FM screening, producing higher image quality and more detailed printing results. It lowers the granularity of images and eliminates moiré and broken lines.

      FM Screening
      Fine detail
Randot X is well suited to art and photographic reproductions, where fine detail is required and such subjects as fabric, lace and flowers are prone to exhibiting moiré or rosette patterns. Printed images more closely resemble continuous-tone originals. Results are impressive on both coated and uncoated stock.

      Increased production efficiency
Randot X takes advantage of optical dot gain. By reducing ink usage as much as 20 percent (depending upon printing conditions), Randot X increases production efficiency.

      Ease of reproduction
Randot X can be used with Screen's Trueflow SE workflow solution. Plates using Randot X screening are imaged easily on Screen's PlateRite series thermal platesetters. When combined with the precise imaging afforded by PlateRite laser diode exposure heads, Randot X provides high-definition detail in the printed product.
