A brief description of JDF
JDF is an industry standard designed to simplify information exchange between different applications and systems in and around the Graphic Arts industry. In the most simplistic view, a JDF file carries information such as job ticket specifications which can communicate with any JDF enabled software. JDF files can collect information and give information as they move through the shop interacting with all JDF enabled devices and software. But this is a big oversimplification, as JDF is so much more in that it not only automates job information but it’s also process automation which means it can exchange data and instructions with both software solutions and machinery. For example, it can exchange job information from an order quotation into prepress production but also set the ink keys on JDF enabled presses. The most interesting aspect is that the printer would expect increases mostly in productivity but one printer found quality increased as much as productivity.
JDF Benefits
JDF eliminates most repetitive re-keying. - Today's biggest and costliest source of errors in printing is re-keying information The information and process automation capabilities of JDF will increase speed and efficiency
