SCREEN L350UV+ enables Maschinenbau to meet accelerating demand

German ‘digital only’ label specialist chooses SCREEN inkjet printer for its high speed and print quality.

German printing company Maschinenbau Sobkowiak was pushed to its limits by the rapidly increasing demand for labels, which has almost doubled with the COVID-19 pandemic. The SCREEN Truepress L350UV+ label printer delivered the solution.

“With the L350UV+, we upgraded to a much faster digital inkjet printer – and with it came better print quality, higher resolution and reliability than our previous generation inkjet equipment,” says Uwe Sobkowiak, CEO of Maschinenbau. “It meets our needs and that of our customers. It helped us rise to the challenge of the accelerating demand for labels, especially in the food industry.”

Fast and flexible

A ‘digital-only’ print shop, with a staff of 14, Maschinenbau uses the L350UV+ label printer for a wide range of print jobs, from food labels to labels for cosmetics and industrial products. “Our strength is that we’re able to respond incredibly fast and with great flexibility to client demand. The SCREEN L350UV+ supports and facilitates this. It helps us differentiate ourselves in the market,” Sobkowiak says.

Located close to Düsseldorf, Maschinenbau entered the German label-print market in 2014, after building a reputation as an industrial machine manufacturer. One of its customers was a packaging company, which, in addition to manufacturing equipment, also needed printing services. The company’s expertise in the field of machinery helped Maschinenbau remain at the forefront of technology in the print industry. It was one of the first German printers to switch to 100% digital printing.

Germany shifts to digital technology

SCREEN, which has sold over 200 units of label digital inkjet presses, has seen demand for digital print equipment in Germany speed up over the past few years. “This is driven by the need for fast and flexible print technology that is capable of delivering relatively small print runs fast, and with a high print quality that matches that of offset.

“In addition, digital print technology is more energy-efficient and produces less waste than conventional print technology, so meeting the increasingly ambitious sustainability requirements of German companies,” says Patrick Jud, Area Director DACH at SCREEN Europe. “The growth of German investment in digital print technologies that we’re seeing today is likely to continue or even speed up in coming years,” he adds.
